Eckerd College recently issued the following announcement.
The Eckerd women's basketball team moved up in the D2SIDA Media Poll and made its first appearance of the season in the WBCA Coaches Poll in the national rankings released on Tuesday, December 21.
The Tritons (8-0, 4-0 SSC) jumped four spots to No. 15 in the latest media poll after debuting at No. 19 last week and came in at No. 23 in the coaches poll, appearing in the poll for the first time since March 2017.
Eckerd matched its best start in program history with a pair of wins last week over Davenport (Mich.) and Rockhurst (Mo.) at the Terrace Hotel Classic. EC was also 8-0 in the 2007-08 season.
Eckerd's defense is one of the best in the nation, ranking first in defensive field goal percentage (29.2) and second in scoring defense (47.9).
Offensively, EC is one of the top in Division II as well, ranking 12th in field goal percentage (47.2) and ninth in assists per game (17.4).
Additionally, Maya Price's 62.2 field goal percentage ranks eleventh-best in the nation, and her 2.1 blocked shots per game rank 22nd.
Eckerd faces a break for the holiday before returning to SSC action on December 31 at No. 12/9 Tampa at 2:00 PM. The Tritons return to the McArthur Center on January 2, facing Florida Tech at 2:00 PM.
