Rep. Chris Sprowls (R-Palm Harbor) was among those who honored the life and legacy of Missy Shorey during a fundraising dinner for a scholarship established in her honor.
Shorey, the first woman elected to lead the Dallas County (Texas) GOP, died last year from an accidental mixture of sleeping pills and alcohol. She graduated from Countryside High School in Clearwater.
"Amazing evening honoring the life & legacy of Missy Shorey. The Missy Shorey Scholarship will help Pinellas women seeking higher education. Missy’s life from Countryside H.S. to Chair of the Dallas Republican Party created many friends. It was great to be with some of them tonight," Sprowls posted on Facebook after the Feb. 8 event.
The Missy Shorey Scholarship will help Pinellas women seeking to improve themselves through higher education.
Often called by her peers as a “fearless trailblazer,” Shorey also founded Shorey Public Relations and was the executive director of Maggie’s List, a committee that focused on electing conservative women to Congress.
