PINELLAS COUNTY – On August 28, 2021, at approximately 11:28 p.m, deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to 5316 Seminole Boulevard to investigate a fatal crash.

According to investigators, 44-year-old pedestrian Nole Karcher was walking his bicycle from east to west across Seminole Boulevard, not in a designated crosswalk. 46-year-old Brian Thomas was driving southbound on Seminole Boulevard and struck Karcher. Karcher was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators say Thomas showed signs of impairment and a DUI Investigation was conducted. Deputies arrested Thomas and transported him to the Pinellas County Jail, charging him with DUI with death.

According to investigators, speed and impairment appear to be factors in the crash.
